Trade / Scope Specific

Responsibilities including but not limited to:

  1. Read and interpret meters, gauges, and other sensing devices to monitor plant operation.
  2. Adjust controls to regulate flow into the plant.
  3. Monitor the water’s progress through various internal processes.
  4. Operate pumps, valves, equipment, and chemical feeding systems.
  5. Test and adjust chemical feed rates to ensure quality (for disinfection, taste, odor, and suppressants).
  6. Take samples of the water or wastewater.
  7. Perform routine lab tests and interpret results.
  8. Keep detailed daily records of chemical test results, readings, and changes in plant operation.
  9. Provide input into annual operating budgets.
  10. Prepare monthly and annual reports.
  11. Maintain stock of essential spare parts.
  12. Operate computer data-acquisition systems, and data control and alarm systems.
  13. Maintain equipment and make minor repairs to valves, pumps, etc.
  14. Investigate taste and odor complaints.
  15. Operate sludge-handling systems.
  16. Monitor and adjust biological processes.
  17. Monitor and provide for water demand management during peak flow periods.
  18. Ensure water or wastewater always meets Government of Alberta standards.
  19. Follow safety guidelines, approved processes, and procedures on the job site.
  20. Communicate effectively with supervisors and crew members to minimize disruptions and maximize productivity.
  21. Work cohesively with teams of employees or contractors.
  22. Communicate in a polite and courteous manner.
