- This position is a member of the Regulatory Compliance & Internal Evaluations team within the Safety Division.
- The role will manage formal correspondence between American Airlines and regulatory agencies, as well as lead company root cause investigations of global issues; primarily from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), to ensure issues are mitigated and in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations (CFRs).
What you'll do

- Lead root cause compliance investigations of global, systemic issues and help business units determine appropriate corrective actions and identify system contributing factors of compliance escapes
- Leverages data to identify and assess areas of operational inefficiency within existing business units to validate compliance findings, seek operational improvements, and ensure monitoring for success
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and written with all levels within the organization
- Ensure FAA correspondence meets established standards
- Track the completion of correspondence corrective actions
- Liaison with the FAA, or other regulatory agencies, to manage correspondence
- Provides subject matter expertise on regulatory issues for internal departments
- Provides direct interface with FAA and other regulators involving correspondence and regulatory matters
- Maintenance correspondence in ETQ databased for tracking and trending purposes
- Participate in various working group(s), Data Analysis Groups (DAG), and Operational Standards Board (OSB) meetings
- Provide support to AA Legal when necessary
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and written with all levels within the organization
All you'll need for success
Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
- Undergraduate degree in related field or equivalent experience and/or training
- 3 years of related experience
- Equivalent experience and/or training in just culture principles, root cause investigations and Safety Management System (SMS)
- Broad airline operational and/or airworthiness experience/knowledge
- Extensive knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations
Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
- Advanced degree preferred in related field or equivalent experience / training
- Strong attention to detail with ability to make connections across functional areas, and understand dependencies and implications
- Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and work independently, complete projects on time, perform under pressure and respond to changing priorities
