At Secret Escapes, we curate unforgettable travel experiences, and behind every trip is a commitment to safety, trust, and smart risk management. We’re looking for a detail oriented and proactive risk and compliance specialist to join our Legal team, collaborating closely with finance, packaging, business development, and data protection to ensure our hotels and experiences meet the highest standards. In this role, you’ll help manage supplier risk, keep our policies up to date with changing regulations, and embed a culture where safety and compliance are second nature - making a real impact at the heart of a fast moving travel tech company. If you’re a natural problem-solver with a sharp eye for risk (and a healthy curiosity for adventurous experiences), we’d love to hear from you.

Secret Escapes operates a flexible working policy and we are all in the office 1 day a week (minimum) and have core hours of 10am-4pm (you can make up the other hours to suit you). In keeping with being an inspirational travel brand, we also have a ‘Work from Anywhere’ policy, so you can work from anywhere in the world for up to a month each year!
We’re a diverse and inclusive bunch of individuals from different backgrounds and with varied interests, but the one thing we all have in common is that we’re good people (even if we do say so ourselves!).
The Role
At Secret Escapes, our members trust us to curate exceptional travel experiences - and that trust starts with keeping them safe. We're looking for someone who’s passionate about embedding smart risk thinking across everything we do, helping ensure the safety and integrity of our products, partners, and policies.
What we’re tackling
How do we minimise the risk of accidents or injuries at the hotels and experiences we feature?
How can we use our data more effectively to spot trends and better understand our risk exposure?
How do we highlight high-risk suppliers early - and manage them appropriately?
How do we stay ahead of changing global regulations to protect our customers and our business?
How can we build a culture where risk awareness is second nature, and our teams are empowered to make smart, informed decisions?
Things you’ll be working on
Monitoring the regulatory landscape to identify upcoming legal and compliance changes, advising the business on necessary actions.
Supporting the development and maintenance of key compliance policies, procedures, and documentation to ensure they remain current with legal requirements (including Modern Slavery, GDPR, anti-bribery and corruption, etc.).
Overseeing the process of collecting relevant health and safety and credit information from hotels and suppliers following up with them as necessary.
Monitoring of exposure to major / high risk suppliers.
Advising teams on risk categories of different excursion types and what is acceptable.
Monitoring the number of higher risk excursions and ensuring the overall risk profile is kept under control.
Monitoring changes to Foreign and Commonwealth Office guidance and advising customer services and sales teams accordingly.
Spot checks on the website to check we are correctly categorising our sales and to make sure we are not offering anything we shouldn’t.
Assisting with compliance monitoring and audit activities to ensure internal controls and processes are effective.
Developing and delivering compliance training to staff to build awareness of key regulatory risks and internal policies.
Coordinating compliance-related projects and initiatives across different teams to ensure effective and timely implementation, with support and guidance from the Legal team.
Liaising with insurers to keep them updated on our sale types and exposure.
Supporting the investigation and documentation of compliance-related incidents, helping to coordinate a timely and appropriate response.
How the magic happens
You’ll sit within our small but mighty Legal team - a group of four based across London and Berlin. While we’re the go to team for all things legal and compliance, we’re anything but siloed.
This role is highly cross-functional. You’ll work hand-in-hand with our:
Data Protection Officer - to ensure our practices stay sharp when it comes to GDPR and data governance.
Packaging and Operations teams - to support safe, compliant product design and supplier onboarding.
Business Development team - helping them make informed decisions when evaluating new partners, experiences, or destinations.
Finance team - particularly when it comes to assessing supplier creditworthiness and understanding commercial risk, and managing our insurance policies.
We believe in collaboration over red tape, and we’re proud to be a team that empowers the business - not slows it down. You’ll be a trusted advisor, a sharp risk spotter, and a key part of how we scale our offering safely and sustainably.
You will bring:
Experience working in governance, risk management, compliance, or another field where you've had to assess risk and ensure things are done the right way.
Some familiarity with the travel industry - or a curiosity and willingness to learn the unique challenges it brings.
An understanding of legal or procurement processes would be helpful, but not essential - we’re happy to help you learn.
A collaborative approach, and confidence working with people across different teams and time zones.
And you are…
Keen to have real ownership;
Super diligent and logical in your work;
Proactive, tackling problems without needing to be asked;
A team player, working alongside multiple different teams and assisting them with your insights;
Have a keen eye for detail and able to analyse and draw conclusions from large data sets;
Excellent communicator at all levels;
Excited by, but naturally cautious of, activities such as snowmobiling, volcano treks and helicopter transfers.
