Overview

Reporting to the global Chief Operating Officer, the Compliance Officer (Global) contributes to and drive the achievement of the Avison Young objectives and values:

  • Provides strategic and creative input and initiatives to ensure that AY objectives are developed and met.
  • Responsible and accountable for overall management of Avison Young Compliance, including Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-bribery, Sanctions Checking, and other Regulatory Accountability.
  • Responsible for internal audit of process and practices.
  • Manage efficient and effective relationships with governing agencies. Own and implement the regulatory practices, policies and processes.
  • Work with Avison Young executives and compliance team members to implement the corporate compliance agenda across national markets.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively lead the complete compliance team processes and practices to support the business and business units in achieving their objectives.
  • Develop, implement, and lead a coordinated and commercial approach to governance, risk, and compliance, promote and maintain key internal policies and the overall risk and compliance management framework.
  • Ensure that the organization is compliant with all statutory and regulatory requirements in relation to the regulating bodies, and that the Executive Committee is fully informed and trained on all matters relating to risk. Take action to rectify any concerns and handle any violation with the business unit head, maintain and record any appropriate actions and improvement plans. 
  • Ensure that communications with the governing agencies are timely, open and effective.
  • Support to ISO related activity and accreditation.
  • Select, procure, manage and control compliance sub-consultants and strategic partners to confirm that they operate efficiently and provide the best value for the business.
  • Develop, create, monitor and operate within the compliance budget.
  • Oversee risk reporting to the global Executive Committee, working with the support directors to maintain an updated, national risk register.
  • Approved Person for the UK regulated entity and MLRO registered with HMRC. Ownership of all matters to do with Money Laundering and Anti-bribery.
  • Responsible for all matters relating to complaints regarding any government agency with the Global Chief Operating Officer and Chief Legal Officer.
  • Monitor the NAVEX Ethics Complaint web and hotline reports.

Strategic

  • Work with the global Chief Operating Officer to provide overall strategic guidance to the growth of Avison Young and long-term plans. Develop and deliver insightful strategies and presentations on compliance to the global Board of Directors, the global Executive Committee, and national executive teams and business unit heads.
  • Contribute to the overall Avison Young strategy and policy making by advising the Chief Operating Officer on the compliance implications, risk appetite, initiatives and changes on the horizon and formulating systems, strategies and training to enhance, embed and develop Avison Young compliance requirements.
  • Work with the business units to predict future compliance trends and provision of recommendations and options.
  • Evolve corporate compliance department to ensure any internal strategy covers future proofing, procurement and the internal and external strategies of Avison Young.
  • Report to the Chief Operating Officer on a monthly basis any gifts or hospitality that is in excess or requires reporting under the Avison Young compliance guidelines.
  • Responsibility for monitoring, reporting and adhering to the Avison Young guidelines.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years proven managerial experience in a multi-national risk and compliance function.
  • Strong experience, knowledge and skill in understanding regulatory issues, and capable of ensuring thorough communications regarding compliance and ethics.
  • Commercial Real Estate experience required.
  • History of monitoring ethics hotlines, preferably NAVEX experience.
  • Ability to interpret regulatory guidance in a commercial context.
  • Ability to communicate at a board level on strategic regulatory issues.
  • Proven experience in dealing with client complaints and liability insurance claims.
  • Masters Degree in a business-related discipline.
  • Corporate Compliance Professional accreditation by Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics, preferably CCEP-I designation.
