Overview

As the Data Governance Specialist, you are responsible for providing data governance and stewardship expertise and oversight relating to the delivery of data governance and analytics services and initiatives.

 

Working with senior management and departmental leaders, you will develop, implement, and oversee processes that ensure effective control and use of data assets. The Specialist is also responsible for the ongoing coordination and support of the data governance process.

 

The Specialist consults and works with departments within IT and other business divisions to determine the implementation of appropriate data governance methodologies and ensures that data governance policies and initiatives are adhered to within the data strategy goals.

Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with various stakeholders implements a data governance framework focusing on monitoring the delivery standards of data services within the corporation and to our business partners.
  • Participate in the development, review, and implementation of data governance initiatives.
  • Develop proposals outlining strategies and frameworks on how to address data governance needs or issues.
  • Participate in the development and review of data governance documents and reports.
  • Provide oversight on additional analysis that can drive changes that benefit the data management and data security operations.
  • Protect enterprise data assets through controls for the availability, usability, integrity, consistency, auditability and security of data.
  • Establish corporate wide metadata capabilities working with operational managers and the corporate data and analytics functions to continue developing the data dictionary catalog and business data glossary to define and locate data in the organization; ensuring the wide range of Metadata is managed and made available to the organization.
  • Direct and provide recommended methodological approaches and research expertise into data governance issues and data strategic initiatives.
  • Co-ordinate and provide oversight leading to the completion of data governance best practices activities.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Analytics or a related discipline.
  • Completed or current coursework related to data governance and/or data management is an asset.
  • Working knowledge and/or Certification on DAMA or DCAM is considered an asset.
  • Four (4) years of progressive experience in data analysis, of which one (1) year is in data policy and/or governance.
  • Experience in Microsoft Purview and its components.
  • Experience with master data management, metadata management, data quality management and methodologies around valuation of critical data assets.
  • Working knowledge of managing and augmenting business data glossaries and data dictionaries.
  • Proven political acumen and commitment to confidentiality.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
