FM is a leading property insurer of the world's largest businesses, providing more than one-third of FORTUNE 1000-size companies with engineering-based risk management and property insurance solutions. FM helps clients maintain continuity in their business operations by drawing upon state-of-the-art loss-prevention engineering and research; risk management skills and support services; tailored risk transfer capabilities; and superior financial strength. To do so, we rely on a dynamic, culturally diverse group of employees, working in more than 100 countries, in a variety of challenging roles.

When you join our London Operations team as a Consultant Risk Engineer, you can use your engineering background to help clients mitigate potential disaster—saving property, businesses, and lives.

Responsibilities

Our diverse, multicultural team of engineers do not spend their days behind a desk. They are out at client locations, working independently at some of the largest industrial facilities in the world to help prevent losses from fires, equipment breakdowns and climate-related hazards. You may find yourself evaluating a flood exposure at a UK pharmaceutical plant or advising on a sprinkler system installation at a Dubai warehouse to protect it from a major fire. You will be trained to become a skilled consultant, providing guidance to our clients on a range of engineering and environmental risk topics, whilst influencing core business decisions in collaboration with our technical underwriting department.

It’s a flexible, hands-on job requiring high energy, self-motivation and creativity.

Your career will start with a structured training programme including self-study and online training, trailing peers in the field, classroom learning at our US-based learning centre and mentoring. You will soon find yourself working independently, travelling to client facilities in the UK and overseas to help solve complicated technical issues and review risk improvement projects.

Qualifications

Successful candidates should have the following knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Engineering. We are ideally looking for Chemical, Mechanical, Fire, Electrical or Structural/Civil Engineers, although consideration will be given to other subject areas or applicable science/technology graduates.
  • Ideally a minimum of two years’ experience in an industrial engineering role.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Good analytical, organisational, problem solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Efficient time management with the ability to work with minimal direction.
  • Proven technical aptitude including a diverse knowledge of engineering principles.
  • Valid driver licence for use in the UK.
  • Proficient in MS Office products.
  • The permanent right to live and work in the UK.

During the first twelve months of this flexible role, the successful candidate will be required to frequently attend our Maidenhead office. However, once training is completed there is the ability to primarily work from home (subject to location). Candidates should be willing to travel extensively, primarily within the UK, but with international travel and training assignments.

In return, you will receive a competitive benefits package which includes:

  • Company car or car cash allowance.
  • Final Salary Pension Scheme.
  • Private medical insurance.
  • Incentive Plan.
  • Fitness Reimbursement Plan.
  • 2 Global Well-being days per annum.
  • Annual Volunteer Day.
  • Emotional well-being and mental health assistance programme.
