Job Summary
The position assists in the identification of potential regulatory deficiencies with animal research protocols, provides technical support, and regulatory guidance. The compliance officer conducts regulatory audits of approved research protocols, facilities, and on .. going activities. This position is to conduct post approval monitoring ( PAM ). This position is not responsible for providing patient care. Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Responsibilities
1. Composes clear, concise and detailed correspondence to principal investigators ensure that committee concerns and questions are appropriately communicated. Evaluates investigators responses to determine if they are adequate or if additional information is needed. 2. Makes recommendations to IACUC policies and guidelines as they are developed or revised. 3. Conducts facility and animal use program audits to evaluate deficiencies, writes reports, and disseminates information to appropriate individuals. 4. Conducts audits of approved research activities including the protocol, research activities, laboratories, animal holding areas, and off-site locations. 5. Conducts audits of University of Utah training programs and content. Assist in training documentation management and verification of training. 6. Maintains a current understanding of Federal regulations and accreditation guidelines governing animal research; attends education and professional seminars as required to stay current in areas related to animal research compliance. 7. Maintains accurate data entry into IACUC computer systems. 8. Maintains accurate IACUC files both electronic and hard-copy formats. 9. Attends protocol review IACUC committee meetings. Inform committee of ongoing post-approval monitoring audits and ensure accurate documentation of final committee determinations.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Health Care Administration, Business Administration or a related field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); plus 2 years working experience with one of those years working in a compliance office. American Health Information Management ( AHIMA ) or American Academy of Professional Coders ( AAPC ) recognized certification such as: Certified Professional Coder ( CPC ), Certified Professional Coder-Hospital ( CPC -H) or a specific certification preferred by the Department. Basic knowledge of clinical documentation requirements related to regulatory and reimbursement rules, the Medicare system and proficiency with computer software such as Microsoft Word and Excel; demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required. Experience with University of Utah computer systems such as: Powerchart, Allegra, IDX , IDXRAD , Corporate Radar, Cognos, EPIC and ORMIS are highly preferred.
