Job Purpose

Reporting to the Head of Technical, the Compliance Manager is responsible for managing and maintaining quality and compliance systems, including supplier approvals, NCR processes, food safety, labelling, specifications, allergen databases, customer communication, and KPI tracking, to ensure adherence to legal, customer, and industry standards.

The purpose of the role is to oversee and maintain key quality and safety systems, ensuring compliance with legal, customer, and industry standards. This includes managing quality assurance processes, supplier and customer interactions, and systems related to food safety, labelling, allergens, and specifications, with a focus on data analysis, continuous improvement, and effective communication.

Duties include:

  • Acting as a role model and ambassador for the company’s commitment to quality and compliance.
  • Managing the Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure compliance with internal, customer, and legal standards.
  • Overseeing supplier approvals and non-conformance reporting (NCR), including trending, tracking, and reviewing processes.
  • Managing the internal NCR system with a focus on trend analysis and corrective actions.
  • Leading the management of Vulnerability Assessment and Critical Control Point (VACCP) processes to mitigate risks in the supply chain.
  • Maintaining the allergen and claims databases to ensure product safety and accurate labelling.
  • Ensuring compliance with legal requirements and conducting horizon scanning for emerging regulations and communicating all findings to the correct departments.
  • Managing the specification system, ensuring product specifications are up to date and accurate.
  • Overseeing the artwork approval process to ensure product labels meet legal and customer requirements.
  • Communicating effectively with customers on quality and technical matters.
  • Managing the concession system, including trend analysis, and reviewing for continuous improvement.
  • Handling customer complaints, conducting investigations, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Tracking and analysing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to drive quality improvements.

Skills include:

  • Level 3 Food Safety qualification.
  • Proficient knowledge of HACCP principles and their application in food manufacturing.
  • Training in labelling requirements to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Experience conducting internal audits to verify compliance with policies and standards.
  • Knowledge of VACCP processes and the ability to manage associated systems.
  • Strong attention to detail, ensuring accurate record-keeping and compliance.
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills to manage and improve quality processes.
  • Effective communication skills to liaise with internal teams, suppliers, and customers.
  • Proficiency in computer systems, including Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word, and Outlook.
