The ideal candidate will bring a strong ethical mindset, proactively identify risks, and help strengthen the organisation’s risk maturity through challenge, analysis, and continuous improvement. Strong organisational and communication skills are essential.

Your Mission…

As a Compliance & Governance Officer, you will play an important role within the Compliance Function to deliver on the core Compliance, Privacy and Data Security regulatory responsibilities, as they relate to Wellington IT and in turn for our Credit Union customers. You will work closely with the Compliance Manager (& Data Protection Officer) to achieve these goals, whilst collaborating with other Functional teams and stakeholders to ensure the timely and comprehensive delivery of critical projects and requirements. You will also have the opportunity to actively engage with customers to support them in navigating the evolving UK and Irish regulatory financial landscape.

The ideal candidate will have a strong ethical mindset to uphold second line of defence credentials providing challenge to the in-house processes and cross-Functional practices, with the ability to surface areas for improvement to continually enhance the risk maturity of the business. The role requires an eagerness to take initiative in identifying compliance, data privacy and data security risks in the business.

The role also requires the successful candidate to drive an incident management strategy within the business to ensure there is a continued proactive and efficient approach to incident escalation, and the subsequent resolution and trend analysis evaluation, upon conclusion.

The responsibilities will be supported by excellent organisational and communication skills and a keen eye for detail.
 

Key Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to):

Internal Governance, Control & Incident Management

  • Challenge in-house processes to ensure effective risk management outlook is in place
  • Review of internal core banking system and supporting infrastructure to ensure regulatory requirements/controls are incorporated and routinely monitored (PCI, ISO 27001, ISO 20022, GDPR, IPR)
  • Contribution to the escalation and containment of Wellington IT or customer Compliance, Privacy or Data Security incidents
  • Perform trend analysis assessments of Wellington IT control and governance frameworks, to educate the wider business risk outlook
  • Generate reports to support the message to Management on the risk maturity of the business

Regulatory Compliance, Data Protection & Customer Engagement

  • Review and interpret emerging Compliance and regulatory requirements both internally and externally, in order to identify new key risk areas
  • Support in gathering Compliance/Privacy requirements for new/evolving products
  • Attendance at and contribution to customer-focused special interest groups, driving meaningful outcomes as they relate to regulatory initiatives
  • Assess operational impact on customer base to new/evolving regulation
  • Transfer of Engagements: Attend meetings and provide guidance on requirements

AOB

  • Support in the preparation and delivery of staff training on compliance and privacy best practices
  • Support in preparation of reports and presentation packs for management and external regulatory requirements
  • Any other tasks as required by management
     

Skills & Experience

  • You are a professional with knowledge, understanding, awareness of relevant laws, standards and financial regulations, such as the GDPR, AML 5/6, PSD2, ISO 27001, Operational Resilience and financial/IT industry-specific compliance requirements in the UK and Ireland
  • The ability to assess risks related to compliance issues, identify gaps in internal controls, to suggest improvements and escalate accordingly
  • The ability to research evolving laws, regulatory changes, and best practices and to share how they may impact Wellington IT and customers
  • Customer focused mentality with an ability to engage with customers to resolve business or departmental matters
  • Highly proficient in the use of IT systems including the full suite of Microsoft Office
