Environmental Compliance Specialist

 

Position Overview
Our Somerset, New Jersey office is seeking a candidate with a strong environmental compliance skill base with an ability to manage and execute a variety of regulatory compliance programs, with special emphasis on air emissions permitting and reporting experience.  The successful candidate will be responsible for the effective completion of all environmental regulatory permitting, recordkeeping, compliance plan preparation, auditing, and reporting for our Somerset office’s environmental compliance clients, including several nation-wide clients.  The successful candidate will interact directly with clients and regulatory agencies and supervise technical staff performing environmental consulting services for a variety of clients including, but not limited to, Fortune 500 industrial clients, real estate developers, attorneys, petrochemical, and manufacturing companies.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Geology, or other related science field.  Master’s preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years environmental consulting experience including a direct working knowledge of environmental regulatory compliance programs involving stormwater, wastewater, spill prevention and control, hazardous substance storage and management, and waste management.  Environmental auditing and air emissions permitting, reporting, and recordkeeping experience is preferred.
  • Experience with interpreting and negotiating New Jersey and Federal air regulations, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s RADIUS air permitting program, Title V and minor facility air permits, and emissions reporting.
  • P.E. license preferred.
  • Strong project management skills:
    • Meet client budget and schedule needs.
    • Communicate with regulatory agencies.
    • Provide junior staff with training and mentoring opportunities.
    • Strong data management, evaluation, and analytical skills.
    • Work with Principals and other senior professionals to scope, cost, plan, and execute environmental compliance projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Relevant and quality work experience in the areas of NPDES, RCRA, UST, SPCC, EPCRA, CAA, CWA, NJ DPCC, etc.
  • Experience with regulatory agency interaction and negotiation.
  • Staff training and mentorship.
    • Willingness and ability to train junior staff with respect to technical requirements, regulatory programs, writing skills, and verbal communications.

Essential Duties

  • Developing work scopes and budgets to meet client goals and expectations, as well as Roux business objectives.
  • Directing and completing specific work tasks that fall within your areas of expertise.
  • Managing large field sampling and facility inspection events.
  • Performing senior level interpretation of work including permitting, data evaluation, compliance assessments, and audits.
  • Developing and maintaining productive relationships with clients and regulatory agency personnel.
  • Management of projects to ensure they are completed on time and within budget (scheduling/management of resources).
  • Performing and managing facility inspections for compliance purposes.
  • Evaluating environmental test results/inspections and making recommendations as necessary for maintaining compliance with regulatory agency requirements/permits.
  • Supporting the business development efforts of the office by joining office Principals on sales calls and taking a lead role in the preparation of technical proposals.
  • Mentoring of junior staff.

 

Physical Demands/Work Environment Conditions

 

This position occasionally works in the field, and predominantly works in an office environment.  In the field, candidate will be working independently or more commonly will be leading a larger team at exterior project sites (i.e., industrial/brownfield facilities, monitoring wells, treatment systems, construction projects) to perform sample collection, recording of operational/meter parameters, and oversight of subcontractors (e.g., drillers, heavy equipment operators, truckers).  These field activities require the ability to drive to different project sites and physically move around outdoors in various terrains, and occasionally in adverse weather conditions. Office work is primarily stationary/sedentary using a computer and keyboard/mouse requiring repetitive hand movements.

Base Salary Range: $100,000 - $150,000. This salary range is based on what Roux in good faith believes it might pay at the time of posting for this position and for this geographic location. Actual compensation may vary based on job-related factors such as relevant work experience, market conditions, education/training, certifications, skill sets, and internal equity. In addition, this position is eligible for performance bonuses based on individual job performance and the profitability of the firm.
