The Director Finance, Risk Management & Insurance is responsible for defining and executing risk management strategy; managing total cost of insuring/financing risk; delivering best-in-class risk management solutions; and leading the company’s risk management & insurance team. 

Here’s where you’ll be focusing:

Corporate Property & Liability Risks 
•    Leads cost effective risk financing solutions and strategies, including risk transfer, insurance, and alternative risk funding to optimize balance sheet protection. 
•    Liaise and collaborate with internal departments and external companies (including Finance, Legal, Real Estate, IT, Operations, Pharmacy, Crombie REIT, Insurers, Adjusters, Law Firms, Consultants)
•    Provide guidance and technical subject-matter expertise for risk and insurance matters across the organization
•    Own strategy and process for negotiating and resolving large loss and complex liability litigation claims
•    Drive development of effective process to investigate, evaluate, negotiate and resolve complex property and liability claims. Drive development of effective loss prevention strategies based on data driven exposures 

 

Franchise Commercial Insurance Program
•    Leads cost effective risk financing solutions and strategies, insurance, and alternative risk funding to optimize balance sheet protection
•    Liaise and collaborate with internal departments and external companies (including Finance, Legal, Real Estate, Business Development, Operations, Insurers, Adjusters, Law Firms, Consultants))
•    Drive development of effective process to investigate, evaluate, negotiate and resolve complex property and liability claims. Drive development of effective loss prevention strategies based on data driven exposures


People Leadership
•    Lead functional team, drive engagement, innovation and growth mindset
•    Coach, develop and empower members within functional team
 

Key Support Accountabilities

•    Provide guidance and technical subject-matter expertise for risk and insurance matters across the organization.
•    Liaise and collaborate with internal departments and external companies (including Finance, Legal, Real Estate, IT, Operations, Pharmacy, Crombie, Insurers, Adjusters, Law Firms, Consultants)
 

What you have to offer:

•    An Undergraduate Degree
•    A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience 
•    5 years experience leading a team
•    Insurance and Risk Management Expertise
•    Finance experience in the retail sector is preferred
•    Relevant professional designation such as Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP), Canadian Risk Management Designation (CRM), or Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) is preferred
•    Ability to effectively influence and manage complex insurance matters 
•    Ability to resolve complex issues across the organization that may not be covered by existing policies and procedures
•    Aptitude for understanding new and current technologies
