Position Description

Under the direction of the VP for Institutional Effectiveness and Student Success, the Compliance and Disability Services Specialist is responsible for serving as the Disability Services Coordinator and assisting the VP for Institutional Effectiveness and Student Success’ with compliance.


Working Conditions
This is a full-time position and most of the work to be performed will be done in usual office working conditions.Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Occasional work after hours may be required to meet deadlines. There may be times when travel is required for meetings or training. This may require evenings and weekend hours, as necessary.

Physical Demands
The duties of this position are primarily sedentary in nature; however, the employee is occasionally required to walk, use hands to handle objects, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and talk to hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move 10-25 pounds.

Position Essential Duties

1.) Serve as the Disability Services Coordinator.
a. Responsible to address the needs of qualified students with disabilities.
b. Evaluates and approves student request for accommodations.
c. Coordinates with external providers to ensure that community resources that can support students are communicated and assessed.
d. Identifies adaptive technologies to support students.
e. Communicates and partners with Student Success Coaches, faculty, and students on delivery of accommodations.

2.) Serve as a compliance specialist to help ensure the College meets accreditation and legal requirements.

a. Assists with institutional compliance to include the college’s accreditation requirements, federal regulations, state higher education rules, and other related legislation and rules including, but not limited to:
i. Responsible to address the needs of students seeking pregnancy modifications.
ii. Assist the Director of Compliance and Financial Aid with Clery crime statistics and other Clery items as requested by the Director or VP.
iii. Research and track state authorization for out of state students.
iv. Assist the VP with requirements of Higher Learning Commission to maintain College accreditation.
v. Assist the Director of Compliance and Financial Aid with Consumer Information to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
b. Assist the VP with annual audits of various compliance areas.
c. Assist VP with documentation of compliance efforts.
d.Help ensure the database to track strategic planning efforts is up-to-date.

3.) Build and maintain community partnerships as applicable to the position.

Qualifications

Associate degree, Bachelor's degree preferred in Special Education, Education, Business, Social Services, Human Services, or related field and at least 1-3 years’ work-related experience, preferably in higher education with knowledge of disability services and higher ed compliance or an equivalent of education and experience.

  17. Analytical thinking.
  18. Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and have attention to detail.
  19. Skilled in oral and written communications.
  20. Ability to understand operation of office machines

The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act requires that the college’s Annual Security Report which includes crime statistics be made available to prospective employees and prospective students upon request. Western Dakota Technical College Annual Security Report includes statistics for the previous three years concerning reported Clery crimes that occurred on campus and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus. The report also includes institutional policies concerning campus safety and security, such as those concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault prevention and response, timely warnings, emergency response, and other matters.
